Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar held a meeting with representatives of all public schools to ascertain compliance to the norms of Right-to-Education Act amid the growing dissent about alleged violation of the provisions of the act on the part of schools.

The meeting discussed compliance related to disaster management, medical facilities at schools and 25 per cent reservation for children of Below Poverty line category in each school. Kumar asked schools to submit a report by April 12 on admissions taken under the BPl category in the current academic session and schools lagging behind in taking admission should publish admission notice by April 14 and ensure admission of the BPl children between 25 and 30 of the current month.

The Ranchi DC expressed that students should not be detained upto class-8, parents should not be put to test for the admission of children and stop taking re-registration fee. Kumar also cautioned schools not to overstep the cap of 15 per cent increase in tuition fee permissible

The DC asked schools not to use buses older than 15-year and furnish information about buses to the office of the District Transport Officer. Kumar said schools must follow orders of Supreme Court and not increase bus fee for generating revenue.

The issue of overcrowding was also discussed in the meeting besides installing CCTV, using GPS, providing first-aid kit and maintaining important telephone numbers in schools.
