Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism has managed to save over Rs 500 crore of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and another about Rs 100 crore under social security heads.

The IT and e-Governance Department, presenting the figures, claimed that out of 1.70 crore beneficiaries under different social security schemes in the State, 1.06 crore are soon to be covered under DBT.

“55 lakh are being paid in their bank accounts and seeding and mapping another 1.06 crore is in the last legs. We have weeded out several fraudulent MGNREGA job cards and removed widespread duplications,” said IT Secretary Satyendra Singh, adding that the step has allowed adding new eligible beneficiaries under social security.

He also clarified that the Government is plugging all the loopholes existing in the system which led to massive leakage of Aadhaar data recently. “Earlier, there was less sensitivity. We with NIC have worked and ensured that no personal information is leaked publicly,” said the Secretary.
