Parents and students have accused an English medium school of violating the Right to Education Act (RTE), 2009 and demonstrated at the district collectorate.
Around six parents and seven students of Kadma-based ICSE-affiliated DBMS English School, on Thursday claimed that their report card for class VIII is being withheld by the school and they are being pressurised by the school authorities to take transfer certificate.
“The school management is playing with life of my son. My son a student in class is yet to get his result. The class teacher said that he has failed and his report card would only be given if we (parents) write a letter requesting transfer certificate. I do not know where to take my son for admission now said a homemaker.
Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh president Umesh Kumar said that they have registered a complaint with the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal who has promised to look into it. East Singhbhum district superintendent of education (DSE), Indra Bhusan Singh said that this was a violation of the act.
Umesh Kumar said that the school was violating Right to Education (RTE) Act by not promoting students and also harming interest. The parents also alleged that so far students have not been given their report cards to know in which subjects they have failed. The school has however refused to promote any of the students. “They scored very poor and can’t be promoted. We have asked them to either continue in the same classes or they are free to get their children admitted at National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS),” said an official.
