The rape victim of Dasham Falls continues to fight for her life at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi on Wednesday after being admitted here on Tuesday.
She was brutally assaulted by two drunken picnickers at the tourist spot on Tuesday, who had come from Bardhwan in West Bengal, along with a group of 70 others. The two accused have been sent to judicial custody by the police.
“The condition of the victim remains to be critical even today as she was bleeding continuously after being raped brutally by the two accused persons,” said officer in charge of Bundu Police Station Rajdeo Singh. Both the accused persons — Babu Pramanik and Tarun Mallick — have been sent to jail, he added.
Police said that the two were so drunk that they were not in a condition to speak properly. They however, confessed about the crime during interrogation, said Singh. “A nearby lady caught them red handed raping the woman and raised an alarm and gathering the villagers who thrashed the two accused very badly and handed over them to the police,” said Singh. The victim is being treated at the gynecological ward of Dr Preetibala Sahay at RIMS.
Babu and Tarun, after taking drinks, strolled into the nearby jungles and had raped the 45-year-old local who had gone there alone to collect fire wood. Meanwhile the remaining group who had come with the two accused persons has returned.
According to the OC, a total of 20 volunteers have been deployed at the spot by the Tourism Department for the safety and security of the people, and no such incident had ever been reported so far from the favoured tourist destination. “Barring the cases of drowning no other case of crime has been reported so far from Dasham falls,” said the OC.
