Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Raghubar Das has urged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to open industries in the green and orange zones. According to Das, the move will help the contractor workers, organised labourers, whose livelihood rely on industries.

In the letter, he said that it is essential to start production again in factories not only in favour of the workers at large but also in the interest of the industry.

“Due to Covid-19 pandemic, workers of medium and small industries have suffered the most. These also include industries like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, subsidiaries of Tata, Timken and HEC, Bokaro Steel Plant. Several contractual and non-contractual labourers are not getting wages. It is need of the hour that industries in green and orange zones should be allowed to operate by following important guidelines,” the BJP leader suggested.

Stressing on problems faced by the workers at Asia’s largest industrial hub, he said that there are 1,600 industries in Adityapur industrial area that are presently shut down. He said that among these industries, 1,000 industries directly depend on the country’s largest automobile company Tata Motors. “ About 80,000 labourers work in these 1,000 industries. As production of Tata Motors is hit, the industries and its workers in Adityapur dependent on it are facing crisis. For them, maintaining their families has become a serious problem,” Das said.

He appealed to the Chief Minister to take all initiatives to start these industrial units in Jharkhand with necessary precautions at the earliest as it will improve the state of labourers and also play a key role in strengthening the State’s economy.
