Power crisis that engulfed Jharkhand due to the Cyclone Phailin is likely to be done away with within a week. A large part of Jharkhand including some portions of state capital Ranchi was sunk in darkness for over 48 hours due to heavy rains and gusty winds across the State.

According to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, over 100 transformers have been damaged across the State which will take at least a week’s time to be replaced or repaired.

“It will take about a week to repair or replace the transformers which have been damaged due to heavy and rain and wind in the last three days,” said Soren. Over 50 per cent of repair has already been done while the rest of the remaining work will be completed in a week, added Soren.

Jharkhand along with Odisha and Anddhra Pradesh witnessed a sudden change in weather conditions on Saturday and winds blew at a speed of 40-50 km per hour along with intermittent rain.

Although it was not so devastating, heavy rains and wind was strong enough to cause blackout in the State for hours.
