A twenty feet long over head shed on the platform number 1 here in Daltonganj railway station is to be replaced as last week track lifting caused a major friction of a coal laden wagon train with this over head shed causing great panic among the passengers on the platform and the officials who ran out helter  and skelter but soon normalcy was restored as the goods train just rubbed past safely.

Sources said the railway tracks were lifted and this lifting was done keeping in mind the gap between the track and the over head shed which is 3.90 meter.

Daltonganj railway station is a high level platform. Confirming this incident railway traffic inspector AK Sinha of East Central Railways under Dhanbad division said a box wagon loaded with coal which was a high heap just got in touch  with the over head shed of platform number 1 and the friction damaged twenty feet of this over head shed but there was no injury or loss of any passengers’ property.

On being asked if there was any ignoring of safety or laxity Sinha denied this saying railway tracks are lifted and this is a very natural work of the railways.

Rains, slush, erosion all force for lifting of track and here this lifting of tracks was done accurately but for the heap of coal in the box wagons just caused this friction.

The height of a box wagon is 3.20 meter and if coal is dumped in heap its height further goes up he reiterated.
