Dalits of five dists to receive health awareness soon

Dalits of lohardaga, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Giridih and Dumka suffering from social disenchantment can now hope for a “well-deserving life”. National Confederation of Dalits Organization (NACDOR) will be carrying out a social audit in the villages of these districts from April 30 onwards.

Speaking about the purpose behind taking such initiative, NACDOR national programme director Ashok Kumar Sinha during a media interaction on Monday said, “As per the Right to Information documents collected till 2013, we found that dalits in India are still treated as untouchables especially in Mid Day Meal, Integrated Child Development Services and Public Distribution System. This differentiation has resulted to malnutrition among their community people. With the social audit programmes we will make Dalits aware about health issues so that they can prevent malnutrition.”

Also, Sinha said that such a kind of campaign will be held across 10 States including Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
