Dairy project for open jail inmates soon

The denizens of Hazaribagh will soon get an opportunity to purchase pure cow milk produced at open jail dairy. The district administration has finalized a dairy project of worth Rs90 lakhs inside the open jail of Jharkhand. Initially it will start with 50 cows but if demand will increase the number of cows will also be increased.

The jail inmates will get work here and they will be paid from the income of this dairy.

Sharing this information the district dairy development officer RK Prasad said that the project has been approved and construction work of a godown and sheds is going on inside the open jail campus. Very soon the cows will come and the dairy will start. From next week the inmates will get special training of running dairy and other aspects of this

business so that they can

successfully handle all the jobs of the dairy.

As per the plan this dairy will be administered by a committee. The jail superintendent will be the chairperson of this committee while district animal husbandry officer, district dairy development officer, a veterinary doctor will be the members of this committee. The jail inmates will not be a share holder in the profit of the dairy. They will get wage fixed by the committee and approved by the administration.

The plan of expansion has been based on the profit of the dairy. From the initial amount of Rs90 lakhs infrastructure, feed and 50 cows will be arranged. The milk will go to the open market for sale, it is not clear yet that whether the milk will go in market through government dairy which sells its packed milk named Megha or through some other agency. From the earning of the dairy future expansion work has been planned.

The jail authorities are also taking keen interest in this project. An officer said that it will help us in giving job or work to majority of inmates inside the premises. Since the start of this open jail the district and jail administration was puzzled to provide work to the inmates so that they can

earn bread for their family members and this project can certainly solve it.
