Winds of change are soon to blow through Dada Dadi Park in Morahbadi which is set to undergo a major overhaul soon under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
Apart from Dada Dadi Park in Ranchi, green spaces in other cities of Jharkhand enlisted under the Union Government’s urban reform initiative will also be rejuvenated. Club Ground in Deoghar, park in Naveen Cooperative Colony at Chas, Housing Colony park in Adityapur, park adjoining Kutiya Temple in Giridih, and another near Meetha Talab in Hazaribagh have been nominated for the renovation.
Funds to the tune of Rs1 crore have already been given to Ranchi Municipal Corporation and other urban local bodies looking after these seven public gardens for the renovation project. Presently, on orders from Urban Development Department, Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company limited (JUIDCO) is preparing a Detailed Project Report for the venture.
Popular among morning joggers of the State capital, Dada Dadi Park has been in a shambles for long due to lack of maintenance. The rides and artificial fountains of the park have been out of order for long. To make things worse, any public gathering in the adjoining Morahbadi Ground pushes the green lung closer to resembling a garbage dump.
The revamp project aims to change all that. The park will be maintained in public private partnership (PPP) mode for doing the job in a better manner than in the past.
“As per plans, half of the park is to be developed for greenery and the other half on revenue model. Under this model, rides for children and services will be offered at the park which will be used for generating revenue. The money raised will be used for park’s maintenance,” stated Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargia.
Apart from rides, the park will feature a better jogging track, functional fountains, an exercise area, proper sitting arrangements and a cafeteria. The space will also be used to host some events, added the Deputy Mayor.
“Unless there is some profit for the private party involved, they will not be able to put required emphasis on the maintenance of the park. As RMC does not have the required manpower to maintain the park. So this revenue model will be quite beneficial in revenue generation and maintenance both,” said Vijaywargia.
He further added, “If this turns out to be a success, we will try and develop other parks of the city based on this model.”
