Candidates engrossed in calculations, parties plan celebrations

With few hours left for the election counting to begin, contestants and their supporters are fully engrossed in the guesswork as to their political fortunes which remain sealed in the EVMs inside strong rooms of Jamshedpur Co-operative College.

While the candidates are keeping fingers crossed, BJP and JVM, the arch rivals for the coveted Jamshedpur lok Sabha seat, look all set for a fitting celebration after tomorrow’s poll verdict. Both parties have ordered for garlands, colours, crackers and laddoos. Both parties look confident of win.

BJP district president Rajkumar Srivastav said that the nation is gripped with Modi mania and even exit polls projected that the BJP will sweep the election. The party is assured to win in Jamshedpur too. “On the basis of the reports received so far from the constituency, we are confident that BJP candidate from Jamshedpur Vidyut Baran Mahto will emerge the winner.

The saffron party has also installed an lED TV near the counting venue to keep watch on poll results that will start trickling in from across the country. The BJP has made elaborate arrangements for tomorrow’s victory procession which will move from Jubilee Park and reach party office near Basant Talkies in Sakchi.

Activists of Jharkhand Vikash Morcha are also equally excited. “Ajay Kumar has given a tough fight to all the contestants and people have shown faith in the leadership of Babulal Marandi, we are confident that our candidate will rise in tomorrow’s counting exercise,” said Abhay Singh, a senior leader. He said that the party will take out a victory procession across the city.

“We have hired an open jeep that will be decorated with flower. Our candidate will sit on the jeep to thank voters,” a party worker said, adding different units of the party will also celebrate in their respective area.

The JMM, on the other hand, is maintaining a low profile. “We are just putting up a tent and making arrangements for water. Any candidate can win from this seat,” said district president Ramesh Hansda.
