In the age of digitalisation, where every detail of an individual is available on various social networking sites, people especially, women get easily trapped in the vicious cycle of the cyber crimes. Today cyber crimes has spread like cancer in our society and need to be tackled with immediate attention said Governor, Droupadi Murmu while addressing people in the programme ‘e-Raksha enabling digital motherhood’ here on Saturday.
With the motto ‘Aware women, aware family’, IPSOWA in association with Cyber Peace Foundation and National Service Scheme (NSS) organised a seminar to make women aware about various cyber crime and other forgeries related to Internet on Saturday.
“An initiative of Jharkhand Police to make denizens aware about various cyber crimes through its ambitious project e-Raksha and through establishment of cyber cell in the state capital some assistance have been provided to guide people and make them aware about severe cyber crimes but without the assistance and support of the public, it cannot be fully curbed”, said Vineet Kumar of Cyber Peace Foundation,.
“In a survey conducted recently, it was found that Jharkhand netizens use pirated software more in comparison to other net surfers which increases the risk of getting trapped in the cyber crime networks. Cyber bullying, stalking, sextortion, morphing has increased and cases related to it are often registered with the police. However, still there are maximum cases which go unreported, as people are afraid of getting their identity revealed. Apart from this, Android operating system (OS) must be handled with care as it is an open platform. In the age of internet of things (IOT), it has become mandatory for people to know every minute details about the Internet while keeping them updated in the era of information and communication technology (ICT),” Kumar pointed out.
A skit depicting various forms of cyber crimes, scripted by a group of students was also presented on the occasion. College students and NGO representatives clarified their doubts related to new media and cyber crimes. Poonam Pandey, IPSOWA president including office bearers and members of IPSOWA Preeti Holkar, Ranjana Malik and others were present on the occasion.
