In a bid to check increasing incidents of cyber crime in the State, Cyber Defence Research Centre (CDRC) will be replaced by Jharkhand Cyber Co-ordination Center (JC3) run in Coordination with Information Technology, Home and Police Department.
“Since CDRC has been lying defunct for the last three years, a decision has been taken to replace it with Cyber Coordination Center which will now run in coordination of three departments – IT, Home and Police,” said ADG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police Spokesperson SN Pradhan. CDRC was being run under Special Branch.
However he maintained that the idea was still in a very nascent stage and will take some more time to come into fore. “The idea behind replacing the body was that it should not remain dependent on a single individual...The decision to form JC3 was taken after taking lessons from the last mistakes done while the formation of CDRC and also after analysing the reasons behind its failure,” added Pradhan.
The center would be completely autonomous body, piloted by the IT Department. Blueprint for the body, constituted by Government agencies as well as private experts, has already been prepared and awaiting approval from the Government. “Posts for the Center will be sanctioned first and then eligible candidates will be selected,” said Pradhan. There will be a separate cadre of IT professionals for JC-3 and a process of appointment has already been started.
“A proposal for the appointment of IT professionals has been sent for State Government’s approval. Although, it is not meant for JC-3, once they are appointed they could be utilised for JC3 in future,” said IG.
