Cyber cafes cash in on VBU's online admission system

Published on:

This year Vinoba Bhave University and Kolhan University of Jharkhand have started online admission system for the UG courses and colleges. But there is a difference; Kolhan’s system is fully online while VBU’s is partially because here the facility of online form fee payment has not been given.

The students aspiring to take admission in the UG colleges and courses of VBU have many queries but the colleges and even the university officials are not yet capable of clearing their doubts. The university claims that it is student’s friendly but students do not agree with this claim.

The in-charge of online admission system Dr. Ajay Sharma said that the last date of filling online admission form of VBU is 25th of June but it is not mentioned on the website. For every opted college and course applicants will have to pay separate form fee. They can deposit the form fee in the college account they have opted. If a student has opted five colleges he will have to deposit form fee in all five colleges account. The in-charge said that after 2-3 days of the last date of filling form the university will publicise the college and course wise merit list on its website and then students can take admission.

When a student applies online for admission in VBU UG colleges and courses he or she immediately gets a printout of the form along with a challan of fee to be submitted in the concerned college and its bank account. The university claims that previously students needed three trips for taking admission and this system their one trip but it is also true that in many colleges of VBU the entire admission process was completed in only one visit till last year.

The students have to submit the scanned copies of their documents, identity proof, photo, signature etc. with the online form and then they will have to take printout of their form and the challan processed by university website. For it they need scanner, printer etc. so they are compelled to go to the cyber cafes and they are charging Rs. 200 for this.

The university has fixed Rs. 100 as form fee to be paid separately for each course and college. Till last year the cost of admission form of almost all colleges was Rs. 100 with a facility to change course by simply cutting the earlier posting and making new posting in the form as per the availability of seats but here there is no choice. Now it is up to you to decide whether this system is students’ friendly or cyber café friendly
