Cyber Bullying is affecting most of the city school children. The issue was focused during a workshop on ‘Classroom Management of School Going Children and Adolescents’ organized by Umang Helpline at Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS) on Saturday.
Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) Director Dr D Ram who was the Chief Guest on the occasion felt teachers and parents should discuss the pros and cons of Internet with the students in order to tackle the issue.
“Psycho-Social problems can ruin the career of the students. It is important for teachers and parents to counsel them. The supportive approach will allow the children to connect easily with the environment,” he said.
He emphasized on the need of interpersonal interaction and highlighted the importance of childhood experiences in mental health when a child is growing. “If teachers and parents do not counsel students, the student’s career will be disabled,” added Ram.
Notably, the 48 teachers from private and government schools were given tips on how to solve various behaivoural patterns noticed in children. RINPAS Director Dr Amool Ranjan told them to incorporate the information as a “Module in Teaching”.
The participants pledged to utilize the information. “We often find students who talk constantly in the class. They keep talking even when a teacher is teaching. This workshop will help us in making them concentrate towards studies,” said DAV Gandhinagar Computer Science teacher Amit Dutta.
Similarly, Physical Education teacher DK Singh from DAV Nirja Sahay said it will help them in rectifying the psychological changes of students from standard lKG to twelfth.
Notably, Umang is organizing such workshops since last year to enhance the academic performance of the students. In December 2014, a workshop on identifying behaivoural patterns of school goers was organized.
Majority of the teachers of the present workshop had then participated. library teacher K Nalini said they can now identify children undergoing some mental problems and counsel them. Nalini has brought some cases as well to the helpline.
“Identifying social and unsocial students is no more a difficulty,” Nalini pointed. Coordinator of Umang Helpline Dr Masroor Jahaan informed the helpline will be conducting block level workshops for school teachers for the same reason from the month of February onwards.
Umang Helpline phone service 0651-2451058 was launched around two years back to help youngsters in distress. Jahaan said since the beginning the number of received cases is comparatively poor and such workshops are being organized to create awareness on mental health among the public.
