The district administration relaxed the curfew for two hours in the town and adjoining areas of Pelawal and Katkamdag police stations, imposed in the wake of violence during Ram Navami processions.
Curfew was relaxed from 2 pm to 4 pm leading people to come out in large numbers to purchase essential items from the market.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Kumar said that since the situation remained peaceful during the last 24 hours the relaxation has been given and tomorrow the administration will again review the situation.
The DC and SP Akhilesh Jha again appealed to the people not to blindly believe in rumours and cross-check information with the district administration. Regarding last night's incident, Kumar said that some notorious persons had burnt two tyres which resulted into the rumour of torching of shops at Rasuligunj. He along with other officials visited the spots to cross-check the rumor which was found incorrect.
The SP accepted that the news of bomb explosion in a house of Habibi Nagar was correct. "Investigation is going on; we have arrested two people getting medical treatment in their houses and as per their statement one person lost his life in this explosion," he added. According to sources, some anti-social elements were making bombs in a house at Habibi Nagar which exploded killing five persons. "Two injured were arrested by the police, one of them has been referred to Ranchi," sources said.
From Monday evening paramilitary forces came into action and they have been deployed in almost all areas of the town along with the RAF. Both the DC and the SP claimed that situation is under control and hoped that within one or two days everything will be normal. They accepted that some petrol bombs and raw materials for making bombs have also been seized during raids last night. Though they did not reveal the number of persons arrested so far, but, according to sources, 26 persons were detained by the police till Tuesday noon.
Joint operation of district and police officials is going on regularly to nab the anti-social elements. The officials hinted some persons have been identified having political background as the key figures behind the spurt in communal tension. Commissioner of North Chotanagpur Veena Srivastava is monitoring the situation and is heading the operations going on.
