While holding a high-level meeting with the Chief Secretary and the DGP, the CM instructed the top officials to take all possible measures to curb illegal mining in the State.

The CM said that the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police will be responsible for stopping illegal mining in their district. “If information of illegal mining and trade of coal, iron ore and other minerals is received from a district, the Government will consider them directly responsible for the same and take disciplinary action against the concerned officers. If their involvement in such activities is found then the Government will initiate probe and take stern action against them,” he said.

Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraverty and DGP Rajiv Kumar assured the CM during the meeting that the Government will keep a strict vigil on illegal mining activities in the State and the administrative mechanism of the State will be on alert to stop the crime.

The officials said that the DCs and the SPs have already been alerted to check illegal mining in different districts, however, they will be again cautioned with the instruction of the CM and the top officials will also keep a close eye on the activities.
