Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) will partially shift to its permanent campus at Cheri-Manatu, 10 kilometers from Ranchi, by January 2014. Established in 2009 the university has been situated at Brambe block as temporary campus. Next month, students of the first four batches of — Management, Mass Communication, Applied Mathematics and English Studies — which started with the university’s establishment will be shifting to this permanent campus.
Presently, the university is carrying out 22 courses — including under graduation (UG) and post graduation (PG), doctorate along with some diploma and certificate courses. According to students of the first four batches, who are now in the second last semester of their PG, purpose of this partial shifting is to showcase a well-built infrastructure to companies scheduled to come for their placements in February first week.
“Our first phase construction sums around `500 crore. `100 crore has already been spent. Some amount has been used in the Brambe campus. Remaining is yet to be received by the University Grants Commission. Also, we need adequate faculty and non-teaching staff for our new campus. Unless, we get sufficient people we cannot think of a full fledged functioning at the Cheri Manatu,” maintained an officer of the university.
The latest physical progress of the permanent campus shows that academic block, administrative block, three-seated boys and girls’ hostels, School Style Building, School of Engineering and Technology, site office and library building are near completion. The officer added, “We are just working on the finishing touches.”
Chief Communication Officer (CCO) of CUJ said, “We are hopeful to shift to our permanent campus by January end with around 100-120 students of the four batches. Security, hygiene and education of the students is at our priority list.” He pointed these words relating to the 10 kg planted bomb found in the under-construction vicinity on December 18 which was later defused.
Sources of the university informed that the session of the first batches will conclude by May next year. “Classes of MBA, MSC Applied Mathematics and MA English Studies will be conducted at Cheri Manatu. MA Mass Communication students will be undergoing their internship in this last semester,” confirmed sources.
