In a follow up of the agreements reached and MoU inked during the two-day Global Investors’ Summit taken place at Ranchi last month, top brace of the State Government on Friday sat with industry people during the Amazon India Fashion Week 2017 where Jharkhand is participating as a partner.

Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma along with Industry Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal held deliberations with representatives from apparel, footwear and cement industry. “The officials later also met delegations coming from Russia and Belarus separately and discussed the ways to bring the interest shown and agreements singed during the GIS on ground,” said a senior official from New Delhi.

Industry Director K Ravi Kumar is also part of the delegation visiting the fashion week that has showcased rich collection of silk garments designed from the ethnic silk varieties of Jharkhand and receiving overwhelming response from the people of the national Capital.

Earlier the extravaganza also hosted as many as seven business-to-business meetings and a seminar on apparel and related industries. The fashion week is presenting sarees designed in lustrous tussar silk to kurtas woven from Kuchai — garments by internationally acclaimed designers showcased their work.

The fashion show was put together by Jharcraft (Jharkhand Silk Textile and Handicraft Development Corporation ltd) with an objective to put spotlight on the exquisite and organic fabrics handcrafted by craftspersons of the State.

The collection showcased at the fashion show was also put on display at the Jharcraft stall at the event where it was received by an enthusiastic stream of visitors who were floored by the elegance of the organic silk. The collections have been appreciated by both the masses as well as the more discerning audience.

The artisans producing the silk are largely poor tribals from Jharkhand State. In its quest to improve sources of livelihood for these

artisans, Jharcraft works to promote their work and take it to national and international platforms.

Tussar silk is made from silkworms. Some varieties produced in Jharkhand is also known as ‘Ahimsa’ silk because unlike the traditional process, this process allows silkworms to leave the cocoons before the cocoons are soaked in boiling water and reeled. The use of cent per cent natural dyes made from tree bark, vegetables, wild grasses and flowers ensure purely organic silk.
