CS holds meeting for Tribal Day

The State Government has decided to observe World Tribal Day on August 9 with much fanfare and make it informative and useful for the community at large. Inputs suggest a two-day seminar would be conducted ahead of that besides programmes by UNICEF and an awareness drive regarding the Forest Right Act, considered crucial for the tribal community in the State.

After attending a high level meeting on Friday organised to chalk out the programme, Welfare Secretary Rajiv Arun Ekka said that a seminar will be conducted on ‘Tribal Society, Development Schemes & Community Experience ‘ on 7 and 8 August 2015 at Morabadi Stadium.

“We are expecting that 50- 60 contestants will participate in the seminar. UNICEF will conduct language festival in which lectures will be delivered on 19 languages. The Department would also conduct an awareness drive regarding and seminar on Forest Rights Act. Simultaneously a Jatara Carnival will be organised along with cultural program on tribal culture by Art and Culture Department at the State Museum,” said Ekka.

Notably, the Government is continuing with a special drive for FRA-2006 throughout the State. Jharkhand figures low in the table of giving forest rights to the forest dwellers and only about 25000 land pattas to individuals and 500 to communities have been issued since the law came into force eight years ago.
