Criminals target mobile phone shop; products worth over Rs 25 lakh stolen

Unknown criminals decamped with smart phones sets and laptops worth over Rs  25 lakhs targeting a mobile phone shop, Dot Com, at Penar Road under Sakchi thana area on Friday.

A CCTV footage of a surveillance camera installed outside the shop shows seven entering into the shop at 4.45 am and leaving it at 5.06 am.

In this connection, the police have registered a case of burglary on the FIR lodged by Anil Gajnani, owner of the shop. Officer-in-charge, Sakchi police station, Anjani Kumar Tiwary rushed to the spot in the morning followed by deputy superintendent of police (city) Animesh Nathani and later superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand.

"I am really shocked to see my shop. I had opened the shop one-and-half months ago and today being ‘Dhanteras’ I was expecting a bumper sale at my outlet where multi-brand smart-phones and laptops are sold.  But I was shocked when I came to know about a burglary at the shop," said Gajnani (30).

He said they have not yet estimated the total burgled smart phones and laptops as the police were taking the finger-prints. But as per a rough estimate, the loss due to the burglary would be over Rs  25 lakh," said Gajnani.

The burglars had entered into the shop by dismantling the shutter.  There was no private security guards at the Penar Tower nor anywhere nearby.

The police had pressed a sniffer dog into service.  On the basis of a lead from one of the bed-sheets that the criminals had left, the sniffer dog had ran upto the Sakchi roundabout, about half-kilometre and then it got confused.

DSP (City) Animesh Nathnani said they had pressed finger-print experts in service beside pressing a sniffer dog.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop T Mathew said the gang which committed the burglary at the mobile phone shop on Penar must be professional.

"We cannot comment now but from the preliminary investigation, we assume that those involved in the burglary on Penar Road in Sakchi were professional and they all are outsiders. We are trying to detect the case," said Mathew while talking to the newsmen.

Officials said that constables on foot would be deployed in a stretch of every one km for patrolling. Several other constables would be deployed for the purpose, besides patrolling by the local police. "Burglaries have increased during the winter as many families are away on vacation. Specially constituted patrolling squads have already been deployed under the limits of the Mango and Sakchi," said police official.
