'Criminals must fear law, order machinery'

Governor Syed Ahmed on Saturday asked the SPs posted in various districts of the State to pull up their socks to take criminals head on, making it amply clear that laxity on their part will not be tolerated.

“The people want result and not the reasons (for their failure). The criminals should fear the law and order machinery,” Ahmed, while holding a review meeting with the senior police officers at the SKIPA auditorium, maintained.

The two advisors to Governor—Madhukar Gupta and K Vijay Kumar, Chief Secretary RS Sharma and Home Secretary NN Pandey also attended the meeting.

The Governor also asked the SPs to be more considerate towards the people and provide them clean administration. “The policemen should behave well with the persons reaching the police station to lodge a complaint and undertake the follow up action fast,” he added.

“The SPs should work with a team spirit in their districts to improve law and order situation in the State. SPs of the district and the concerned officer in charge will be held responsible for any untoward incident,” said the Governor. “The police must reach to the place of occurrence immediately on time as soon as they get information,” he added.

The Governor also advised the police officers to improve their information network so as to take preventive measures to check crimes before they take place.

Advisor to the Governor K Vijay Kumar later said that a detailed district wise assessment of the development and security status in the state was done in the meeting.   “Several problems related to the security and law and order situation in the state were raised in the meeting,” he added.

According to Kumar, the governor advised the officials to be accessible to everybody and must be an interactive to all. The officers should be present on their seats so that they could be approached in the hour of need. “Sometimes the Government officials say that they seldom go to their place of work as they are afraid of going there. This should not happen and the officers must be present in their offices,” said Kumar.

Effective control rooms, improvement of conviction rates and anti-Naxal operations were the major issues which were taken up during the review meeting.

“Several issues were discussed but the major focus remained on how to make the control rooms in the districts functional, the conviction rates must go up in the state and the anti-Naxal operations should be more effective here,” said state DGP Rajiv Kumar. Wherever the need of improvement was felt, the SPs were asked to take necessary action in their districts, he added.

Similarly, a discussion also took place on the measures to be taken to remove the security lapses after identifying them. According to the DGP, operations in Saranda in West Singhbhum and Saryu in latehar are quite successful and similar operations could be conducted in future in other parts of the state also as and when required.
