Cricket mania eclipses bad weather forecast in city

The cricket fever has gripped the fans in the city and across the State in totality so much so that despite the meteorological department’s forecast of bad weather and rains all the tickets of the first T20 match at JSCA international cricket Stadium are already sold.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) is expecting a full house on Saturday when team India and Australia would toil on the ground to register a triumph in the first T20 match.

Weathermen, though, have predicted rainfall on Saturday between 0-6 mm in the whole State, the JSCA authorities are confident to conduct the match starting at 7 PM on Saturday if there is no rain during the game.

“We have made elaborate arrangements and hope that the match will be played uninterrupted if there is no rain in between. We can handle the rain water before the game,” said JSCA president Kuldeep Singh.

The players, however, could not do net practice on the field during the day time as the whole ground was covered throughout the day due to rain. Players of both the teams did indoor practice during the day and later the Australian team came onto the ground in the evening as the rains stopped for a while.

According to the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which is causing heavy rainfall here and it may continue for next four days.

Weather scientist at Ranchi Met Centre R S Sharma said that there was a chance of a light to moderate rainfall towards the evening on Saturday. The upper air cyclonic circulation is going to persist for 2-3 days, he added.

Meanwhile, former cricketer Virender Sehwag today took a tour of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s alma matter Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali at MECON Colony on Friday evening. Sehwag met teachers and staffs of the school and was felicitated by MECON CMD Atul Bhatt and JVM Principal AK Singh on the occasion.
