The smiling face and humming sound of children filled the hall of HPDC at Bahubazar. A meeting of children aged 10 to 18 on ‘Happy Childhood’ was organised by Campaign for Right to Education in Jharkhand (CREJ). The programme was held to educate and aware children about their rights.
Around 200 children from 20 slums of Ranchi participated in this meeting. The aim of the meeting was to educate children about their rights through interactive sessions and drawings. “Education is important for every individual and educating evey child can only bring change in the society.
The meeting is held every year. We ensure that children are able to express themselves and they have a say in the society. We teach them different methods through which they can communicate and take a stand for themselves,” said Prabha Jaiswal, one of the core committee members of CREJ and secretary of Adarsh Sewa Sansthan.
The children were enjoying and having fun at the gathering. “I attend this meeting every year. I learned why education is necessary for children and many new things about rights of children. The drawing teacher teaches us how to draw and how to express through drawing. Also I made many new friends,” said Naina, a student of Prabhat Tara School.
CREJ is a state alliance of twelve NGOs of twelve different districts of Jharkhand. This alliance works mainly for ensuring rights of children. This alliance is supported by CRY.
