CPM leader Sitaram Yechury on Saturday welcomed the SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh while stating the anti- BJP forces must unite to stop division of opposition votes.
The CPM leader was speaking to media persons after discussing the future of opposition alliance with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad at RIMS. The CPI state secretary Bhuwaneshwar Mehta also had a meeting with Lalu on the issue of seat sharing in Jharkhand.
Yechury said the news regarding SP-BSP alliance came during his meeting with Lalu adding the latter has also welcomed the move.
He added that different state level alliances may be formed keeping in view to local socio-political factors in mind but secular parties would come together to form government at centre after the elections. He stated that all coalition governments at centre were formed after the election results.
While speaking on his party agenda, he said removal of NDA government from center and TMC from West Bengal and strengthening the left parties in the parliament are main goals of his party. “Our slogan is ‘Neta Nahi Niti Chahiye (we need polices not leaders),” he said.
CPI leader Bhuwaneshwar Mehta said he staked his party’s claim for Hazaribagh parliamentary before Lalu. He said CPI was the only party which defeated BJP in Hazaribag twice in the past three decades adding Lalu also acknowledged his argument.
