CPI(Ml) to continue struggle for downtrodden

After the five-day national Congress of CPI-Ml, which ended on April 6 with the passing host of proposals, today it was time for the party to bid adieu its members with the objective of building a stronger party to achieve the goals envisaged for the “under-privileged” people of the country.

Addressing the gathering at “Jan Vikalp” rally General Secretary of the party  Dipankar Bhattacharya called the members to “show their strength in the elections” while admitting that the party failed to “live up to the expectations in earlier elections considering the support the party enjoys among the people.” He reiterated his party’s demand for elections in Jharkhand and said law and order is an issue even in President’s Rule.

The CPI-Ml had on Sunday passed a resolution on the President’s Rule in Jharkhand terming it an act of “running the Government through proxy” by Congress party.

Significantly, Bhattacharya criticised the Chatra incident but appealed the armed Maoist rebels to shun arms and protest on the streets instead. Rejecting the act of arson and other disruptive methods Bhattacharya said, “Blowing up railway tracks will not solve problems.”

The party in its political resolution demanded an independent and time bound judicial inquiry of the Chatra incident. Bhattacharya also criticised the State Government for keeping the party members in jails for cases which, he deemed, as false.

Meanwhile, the 59 member central committee of CPI-Ml elected Bhattacharya as the General Secretary of the party.
