CPI (Ml) announces contestants on 8 seats

Fissure between two major left Front parties, the CPI (M) and the CPI (Ml), widened with the latter announcing candidates on as many as eight lok Sabha (lS) seats including Ranchi a day after the CPI (M)’s announcement of candidate for the Ranchi lS constituency. The CPI (M)’s effort to constitute a Federal Front seems to be fuelling discontent among the CPI (Ml)’s cadres.

Party General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya today released the list of candidates who will be contesting lS elections in Jharkhand. The party will contest from Ranchi (Bahadur Oraon), lohardaga (lalsay Bhagat), Chatra (Ramnaresh Singh), Palamu (Shushma Mehta), Hazaribagh (Javed Islam), Koderma (Rajkumar Yadav), Dumka (Bitia Manjhi), Godda (Geeta Mandal) and will support candidates of CPI(M) and Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) candidates in the elections. While the CPI (M) has announced candidates for Ranchi and Rajmahal the MCC will contest from Dhanbad parliamentary seat.

“The kind of preference they have shown for parties -- JD (U) or the JVM -- in their endeavour to form a front before lS polls has affected the left unity. This has created fissure in the left unity,” said Bhattacharya. The party while disclosing names of candidates also vowed not to support candidates belonging to the Congress, BJP, JVM, AJSU party  and RJD in as many as four constituencies across Jharkhand. The party seems to have kept the option open of supporting AAP’s (Aam Aadmi Party) candidate in the upcoming elections.

“let them (AAP) first declare their candidates,” maintained Bhattacharya adding “we may support candidate who has made contributions in their area.” The part will release manifesto on March 23 that is likely to figure usual issues of land and various tenancy acts formulated besides the issue of corruption and issues specific to a constituency.
