CP Singh inspects waterlogged Jaipal Singh Stadium

Published on:
Urban Development Minister Chandreshwar Prakash Singh visited the waterlogged Jaipal Singh Stadium along with officials from Ranchi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday in response to a memorandum submitted by Bal Vikas Manch the day before.
Explaining the situation to the Minister, RMC Assistant Engineer Suresh Kumar Thakur said, “Overflowing drains in monsoon from Upper Bazaar filling the stadium has been a constant bother. The recently erected boundary around the field is blocking the outlet for the water from rainfall and drains causing half the stadium to be submerged.”
Wild plants and weed has almost enveloped the remaining half of the stadium. Both these factors have rendered most of the stadium useless.
“While studying in Std. VIII, I was among the students who voluntarily worked to fill the Bhutha lake where Jaipal Singh Stadium was built later. Outlet for the water gathered in the field should be made soon and the pit filled. But before that, the weeds and the wild grass on the periphery of the field should be cleared immediately,” Singh instructed the RMC officials.
When told about the issue of court officials from nearby Civil Court parking their vehicles in the field, Singh assured that the matter will be sorted out soon. RMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Om Prakash Shah, present during the inspection visit, guaranteed prompt action in accordance to the instructions issued by the urban development minister.
“We submitted the memorandum after children who play here complained about the roblems they face. We ourselves will work to ensure that the stadium is fit for use,” stated Ashutosh Dwivedi, President, Bal Vikas Manch.
