With Rakhi just round the corner, people are once again relying on postal services to send rakhis to their loved ones residing in various parts of the country. As the number of Coronavirus cases continue to be on the rise across the nation, people are avoiding travel and have instead opted to parcel their love in sealed envelopes.
As per officials in Jharkhand Postal Circle, there has been a drastic increase in the number of rakhi posts as compared to last year. Special arrangements like water proof envelopes have been made available at all head post offices and sub post offices. A separate counter has also been set up just for rakhi booking services as per need whereas drop boxes have also been placed for those who want to avoid the queues.
The envelopes are priced at Rs 10 each while separate charges for registry, speed post and parcel services are levied depending on the weight. These envelopes are also being sent on priority basis and delivery on Sunday will also be done if needed.
Ranchiites too have opted to avail these services and send their rakhi not just to their loved ones people in various parts of the country but also across the City.
For Brinda Saraf, who is married in Ranchi going to her maternal home in Calcutta was always a big thing. “I would eagerly wait to visit my side of the family for Rakhi and look forward to being pampered by all my brothers. This is the first time when I have had to send it through post and I am glad it reached well on time. My nieces and nephews are extremely excited to see colourful threads with cartoon characters tied to their wrists. While stepping out to buy Rakhis was not possible, this time I have tried to replicate the same with handmade rakhis. We have also decided to do a video call on the special day.”
“My cousins stay in Kanke Road and I always visit them on Rakhi but this time no outsiders are allowed to enter their building premises. In spite of being in the same City, it is very weird that I have had to post their rakhis but seeing the present situation this was the best option. I also like to take some homemade goodies for them but that will have to wait,” said Priyanka Kumar, a resident of Kokar.
