The count of fresh cases of Covid-19 infection in Jharkhand broke all past records by a huge margin on Monday as over 3000 people were found infected in 24 hours, around twice as much as the cases found in the last highest single-day-spike reported in Jharkhand, figures released by the health department stated.

The State, by Sunday, had registered the highest single-day-spike of 1365 Covid-19 cases on August 27, government figures state. The State’s Covid tally crossed the 40,000 mark on Monday and the number of active cases reached 14,096.

While the Government has attributed the spike in Covid cases to intensified testing across the state, the figures, sources said, were quite alarming as the numbers are expected to further increase once malls, restaurants and hotels resume services on Tuesday.

As many as seven people died of the infection in the past 24 hours taking the Covid toll to 417, Government data stated. East Singhbhum, the district which has reported highest number of Covid fatalities in the State so far, reported six deaths on Monday, the highest among 24 districts in Jharkhand.
