A special CID court in Ranchi on Tuesday rejected the bail application of Shweta Gupta, the former examination controller of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), who is in judicial custody in connection with the alleged examination irregularities case.
The court heard arguments from both the CID and the defence before refusing to grant bail to Gupta. The CID alleged that Gupta had leaked an answer key through WhatsApp from her mobile phone.
Opposing the allegations, Gupta’s counsel argued that she had no role in the alleged irregularities and sought her release on bail. The court had reserved its order after hearing arguments from both sides at the previous hearing.
The CID has submitted a case diary running into nearly 1,000 pages before the court, containing documents and other evidence that the investigating agency claims support its case against the accused.
Gupta was arrested by the CID in August and has remained in judicial custody since then. The agency registered Case No. 16/2026 in connection with alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination.
According to the investigation, more than 24 accused persons have so far been arrested in the case. The CID has been examining the alleged roles of officials, intermediaries and others in connection with irregularities in the examination process.
