A young couple set itself on fire in a house located near Referral Hospital, Ranka on Monday night. The wife died in the incident, while the husband was seriously injured and was being treated to the referral hospital, Ranka.
Police reached the spot on Tuesday, saying that there was a quarrel between the husband and wife over a minor dispute, after which the incident happened.
The deceased was identified as Khushbu Devi (25), wife of Santosh Ram. Santosh used to run a tea shop near the Referral Hospital. Khushboo used to share work. They also have three small children. Santosh used to drink wine. There was often a dispute between the couple about this. On Monday evening, the husband and wife went to the house, closing the shop at 7:30 PM. His house was behind the shop.
Smoke was seen coming from his house at around 8 pm on Monday night. When people heard the sound of crying of Children, neighbours went inside, they saw that both the husband and wife were burning. People somehow extinguished the fire and took them to the nearby referral hospital. Doctor's referred to wife RIMS, Ranchi where she died on Tuesday during treatment, while Santosh Ram's condition remained critical.
Ranka Police Station in-charge said, "On a minor dispute, both of them attempted suicide by setting themselves on fire." The wife was admitted to RIMS for better treatment where she died during treatment. While the husband is undergoing treatment at the referral hospital, his condition is critical. Investigation is underway.
