Councillors to fill city with lED streetlights

Published on:

Ward Councillors of the city were asked to report the number of street lamps in their area so that they can be fitted with light Emitting Diode (lED) lights during the Ranchi Municipal Corporation Board meeting on Wednesday. Around 2,000 units of lED lights have been demanded by the ward councillors. Some have asked for 10 whereas some demanded 200 units.

“Ward councillors have been allotted funds for constructing community halls in their wards and now these funds are to be used for installing lED street lamps. RMC has provided ten lED lamps to each ward councillors and five more will be given to them. They are trying their best to put up lED lamps in every lane and alley,” stated Mayor Asha lakra.

Ward councillors intending to erect community halls in their wards were asked to submit their applications on the condition that they have No Objection Certificate to begin work on the proposed piece of land. Those without the required paperwork were instructed to acquire them.

After numerous grievances related to PWD works were brought to light during the meeting, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargia stated that the department will be asked to send their representative to future RMC board meetings so that questions related to their department can be satisfactorily answered.

Asha devi, councillor of ward 19 demanded that the death report for Sarnaists issued by ward councillors should be recognised as there are no functionaries present at the Sarna burial grounds for this.

“A similar concern has been expressed by the Chadri Sarna Samiti where they have demanded for a RMC officials to be deputed for issuing death reports at masna. But it will be convenient if we can authorise pahans to issue death reports. These death reports can then be verified by the ward councillors,” said the Mayor.

A meeting with tribal ward councillors has been called to discuss the matter and form a unanimous stand on the issue. The final decision on the matter will be taken during the next board meeting, she said.

In response to the enquiry made regarding rejuvenation work going on in Harmu River, Deputy Mayor said, “Any project by the state government to be carried out in the RMC jurisdiction should be executed by RMC. Such projects should not be handed over to some nodal agencies as the ward councillors then have no information about the project and are unable to answer the questions they face regarding these projects.”
