Cosy comfort for Tata Zoo animals this winter

With the winter season setting in, Tata Steel Zoological Park at Jamshedpur is taking elaborate measures to prevent the animals from catching cold.

The officials of the park have informed that the winter season is a crucial period for the wild life and they are leaving no stone unturned to keep the animals safe and healthy.

"With the beginning of the winter, special care of the animals is being taken. Cold wind prevalent in the morning and evening is critical for the animals, so we are leaving no stone unturned to prevent them from catching cold," said a senior functionary of the park.

Apart from providing proper shelter and shield to the animals, mat and hay are being laid down at the cages of the animals to prevent them from cold, informed the functionary.

The zoo is also making special arrangements for keeping three newly-born Royal Bengal tiger cubs warm. They have installed blowers to keep them warm.

"We have decided to install blowers for the Royal Bengal tiger cubs. Separate blower will take care of white tiger cubs Kailash, Aahana and Vivan," said the official.

Earlier, there was only one blower for the tigers. But this winter, the zoo has separate blowers for the mother and the cubs

The 40-acre Zoological Park at the centre of the city is the favourite destination for the picnickers in the winter and the authorities take extra measures to attract the visitors.

Tata Zoo was established in 1990 and its gates were opened for visitors on March, 3 1994.  The zoo is nestled inside the Jubilee Park and has two wetlands on either side, the Subarnarekha River in its north and Jayanti Sarovar in south. Both these wetlands are famous for winter migratory birds.
