COs liable for anomalies in PMAY: Mayor

After discovering irregularities in the list of beneficiaries for housing project Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) earlier this month, Mayor Asha lakra ordered physical verification of the aforesaid list to strike off names which have been wrongly included in it.

Conversing with officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation during the monthly review meeting on Wednesday, lakra stated that any more botch ups will result in strict action against Community Organisers (CO), surveyors and other involved personnel.

“Considering the recent mistakes done deliberately in the previous list of PMAY beneficiaries, it has been put up for revision. Physical verification of 1800 beneficiaries will be conducted once again,” said the Mayor.

The requisites for selecting beneficiaries have also been made clear to the surveyors, lakra said. “People living in houses of thatched roofs on their own lands will be eligible for the benefits of PMAY. They must produce paperwork establishing their ownership over the land, only then will they qualify for the current phase of housing scheme,” she added.

On rehabilitating street-side vendors evicted from Mahatma Gandhi Marg, lakra stated that the list of temporary vending zones has been sent to the High Court. “The process to move them to the new vending zones will be kick-started ss soon as we get court’s order in this regard. The locations have been cleaned and the vendors can use them for setting up shops,” she said.

Bids will be opened soon to select an agency for constructing the vending zone proposed to the south of Jaipal Singh Stadium from the interest parties who filed proposals for the project, added lakra.

More than 300 shops in the newly-constructed vegetable market at Rugrigada will be allotted to the greengrocers through lottery on Friday, the Mayor said.
