East Singhbhum district administration has directed corporate houses to take up cleanliness drive and repairing of chhath ghats near their area of operation as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Dhalbhum SDO Prem Ranjan presided a review meeting for chhath preparation on Thursday at his chamber said that they want to expand the reach of corporate collaboration. Unlike previous years when only Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco, which looks after civic needs in Tata Steel lease areas and Tata Motors looking after civic needs in Tata Motors township, the administration has decided to involve more number of corporate sectors.
“We want to make proper arrangements for the festival. Apart from Jusco and Tata Motors this year we have asked other corporate units like Indian Steel and Wire Products (IS&WP), Jamshedpur Engineering and Machine Manufacturing Company (Jemco), Tata Steel Processing and Distribution limited TRF and lafarge to join hands for cleaning chhath ghats along with civic bodies before October 26-27,” said Prem Ranjan.
The administration will embark on spot-inspection of the 42 chhath ghats along with Jamshedpur Central Peace Committee member on October 26.
In the light of devotees traditionally offering prayers to the Sun god dipping into the river the administration has resolved to identify safe places (chhath ghats) for offering prayers at the two rivers. Besides, the administration has decided to depute divers and life jackets in adequate strength at chhat ghats.
“In view of the filled up rivers we are taking precautionary measures to ensure safety at the chhat ghats,”
said SDO, Dhalbhum. Administration is barricading the danger zones and also putting up sign boards to caution the revelers visiting the riverbanks.
Particularly, Jusco has been asked to provide electricity and make lighting arrangement in the low laying areas of the city, or for that matter, at the approaching paths to the two rivers. Similar responsibility has been given to Tata Motors to take care of Telco. Jusco has been given charge of cleaning and putting of lights at major ghats in Hume Pipe and Bhuiyandih (in Sitaramdera), Sonari, Kadma, and Sakchi, automobile major Tata Motors has been entrusted with Hudco and Hurlung ponds.
JNAC will be cleaning ghats in Baridih, Birsanagar and Surya Mandir (Sidhgora), ghats in Mango and Jugsalai will be cleaned by respective civic bodies.
Meanwhile, officials of Chhath Ghat Committee said that there is an urgent need to properly clean the river banks, and various water bodies on the occasion of the festival of Chhat Puja, which is celebrated with gaiety and fervour by people of the city.
They said that people take bath in water tanks and rivers and therefore it is essential that the cleaning work of these water bodies is completed on time.
