Corona effect: No Ravan Dahan celebrations this year

Published on:

The outbreak of corona pandemic is in complete sense diminishing the sheen of festivities. After the State Government issued directives on organizing Durga Puja with strict restrictions, shadow is also on organising Ravan Dahan celebration in the State. The Punjabi Hindu Biradari, which is organising Ravan Dahan celebration, for the past 72 years has decided not to hold Ravan Dahan this year due to corona pandemic.

Arun Chawla, spokesperson of Punjabi Hindu Biradari, Ranchi said, "The Punjabi Hindu Biradari has been organising Ravan Dahan celebration in Ranchi since 1948. It has been almost 72 years that Biradari is organising Ravan Dahan uninterrupted without any break. But, this year the Biradari has decided not to organise Ravan Dahan celebration due to corona pandemic."

Chawla said that celebration and festival can wait but for us people safety is the prime concern.

It was Arun Chawla's grandfather Ram Lal Chawla and TC Kathuria, who started the Ravan Dahan celebration in 1948 when they migrated from Jhang (Pakistan). Two years after migrating from Pakistan the Biradari started Ravan Dahan with the help and support of few local residents. Initially, the Ravan Dahan celebration was held at Khajuria pond near, but as time passed with large crowd gathering for celebration the venues shifted.
