Concerned over the lack of adequate cops in the city and rising incidents of snatching and theft, the police have decided to team up with the private security-guards posted in the apartment building and commercial establishments to maintain the law and order.

Officers-in-charge of various thana are convening regular meetings of the security guard in their respective police stations and helping them as to how to keep the place where they are posted and the surrounding areas free from crime.

A meeting between the private security guards and that of the Mango police station officer-in-charge, Fulan Nath was held at the thana premises this morning, when about 25 security guard attended it for getting briefings from the police officer concerned.

“It is a novel attempt by the district police for increasing the surveillance against the criminal elements. We have briefed over two dozens security guards about the important things that they have to follow while on duty,” said the Mango officer-in-charge.

A similar meeting between the private security guards and the police was held at Sonari police station premises morning.

Presently about 600 cops, including 40 officers in the ranks of inspector, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors are posted away in Shravani Mela at Deoghar for a month. Due to the posting of so many policemen and officers, away from the steel city is bound to affect the policing.

Superintendent of police (City), Prashant Anand, said that that the meetings with the private security-guards for maintaining extra vigilance at their place of duty are not due to the deputation of policemen at the Shravani Mela only.

“We have asked the officers-in-charge to brief the security guards on seven points for stepping up the security surveillance of visitors at any residential apartment,” said Anand.

Anand said that during the meeting with the officers-in-charge, the security guards were provided with telephone and cell-phone numbers of police control room, patrolling van beside the number of officers-in-charge so that they may contact immediately if they suspect any foul-play. He said the security guards posted at the commercial establishments like banks, corporate offices, shopping malls have also been asked to remain extra vigilant  which will help in preventing crime.

The Steel City has seen a sharp rise in the number of burglaries in the past few weeks. The areas lying on the periphery of the city are the worst-hit with people living under constant fear of a robbery.

Various residential colonies under Mango, Azadnagar, Baghbera, Olidih, Sonari, Telco and Sidhgora police station areas, in particular, have been identified as vulnerable zones with the maximum number of burglary incidents having been reported from here.

Police, on the other hand, maintained that night patrolling in the affected areas has been intensified to check burglary incidents and few additional measures will be introduced further.
