In order to ensure peaceful lok Sabha elections, the East Singhbhum district police on Thursday launched an anti-Naxal operation in Naxal-infested Ghatshila sub-division.
The anti-insurgency operation was initiated in view of ensuring peaceful electioneering and to prevent any Naxal-sponsored violence during parliamentary elections slated on April 17.
Sources went on to inform that the CRPF and jawans of Indian Reserve Batallion (IRB) began the anti-insurgency operation at Ghurabandha, Mosabani, Ghatshila, Dhalbhumgarh and Dumaria. Additional superintendent of police (Rural) Shailendra Burnwal is leading the operation.
Revealing about the anti-naxal operation, Burnwal said that some recent incidents, like fleeing of a dreaded Maoist, Fogra Munda and distribution of posters in Ghurabandha shows that the rebels in Ghatshila sub-division are trying to get active. The idea is to ensure that ultras are nabbed.
A senior police official said, “At the time when the by election will be held next month, joint operation of police and paramilitary is all essential as rebels will tend to concentrate on the Singhbhum side of the border during the time. The joint anti-insurgency operation at Patamda,Dalma and Ghatshila region will keep the area largely free from activities of Naxals in the wake of the elections.”
