Cops blame politicians for being uncooperative

Despite being warned by police, politicians across the State do not disclose their movement details to them, say police officials. Garhwa MlA Satyendra Nath Tiwari had a close shave on Wednesday after he was attacked by some unidentified criminals in Garhwa. Tiwari however, alleged the JVM legislators are being targeted due to the increasing popularity of Babulal Marandi.

“We have asked the politicians to inform us about their movements in the Maoists-infested districts but despite our repeated requests they do not reveal their programmes to us,” said Garhwa SP Mayur Patel.

According to the SP, the politicians cannot be forced to co-operate with the police. Without their co-operation it is very difficult to avert such incidents. “This time also we were not informed by the MlA about his movement,” added the SP.

Tiwari on the other hand said that the JVM legislators are being targeted under a conspiracy hatched by their political opponents who are not able to digest the increasing popularity of their chief Babulal Marandi.

“Opponents are disturbed with our rising popularity and hence, they want us not to contest forthcoming elections in the State,” Tiwari said.

Questioned over the allegations made by the police officials that the politicians do not inform them in advance about their movements, Tiwari said, “It is their duty to ask every morning about our movements every morning.”

According to Tiwari, the legislators of in the Naxal-infested areas are left on the mercy of God, there is no one to think of us,” he added.

Vice-president of JVM (P) Tiwari had a narrow escape when some unidentified armed criminals attacked his vehicle allegedly meant killing him near Anraj valley on Garhwa-Ambikapu, some 14 km from the district headquarters on Tuesday night.

Tiwari was returning from a wedding ceremony at JVM worker’s house at Ranka on Tuesday night. Over a dozen armed persons started firing at his vehicle when he was returning from the ceremony.

Retaliating immediately his bodyguards gunned down one Bablu Tirwari whose body was recovered later on Thursday morning by the police. A bike, one mobile and a pair of gloves have also been recovered from the spot. The police are investigating the matter.
