Contributory PF, not pension, for RU employees

Following the guidelines of University Grant Commission (UGC), Ranchi University (RU) employees recruited after December 1, 2004 will not be getting their pension. The university has decided to grant them ‘Contributory Provident Fund’ (CPF). RU officials will be submitting a proposal concerning this plan to State Human Resource Department on Friday.

Explaining CPF, RU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) Raziuddin said, “Teachers recruited after December 2004 need to deposit 10 per cent from their basic pay towards CPF from now onwards. The other 10 pe rcent will be provided by the government. Finally, on the retirement day these teachers will get 60 per cent of the total PF including CPF. This pension scheme would cover non-teaching staff as well.”

RU has also decided to renew the promotion schemes. “Nowadays the posts comprising lecturer, reader and professor have been renamed as assistant professor, associate professor and professor. UGC has already provided rules known as Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for such teaching staffs. This CAS will be applicable from 2009 onwards.”

The decision to appoint all the lower and higher university posts on direct recruitment basis was also taken at this meeting regarding approval of the RU draft statute. There were altogether five draft statutes portraying to leave, appointment of teachers and their promotions.

Dr Raziuddin conceded, “Many rules were lacking in the old statute with effect to UGC norms which were required to be replaced. It was this reason that we planned to draft a new university statute.” RU VC Dr lN Bhagat, Registrar Dr Amar Kumar Chaudhary along with few college principals were also present in this meeting.
