Congress renews attack on BJP

Jolt received from the by-election results declared on Tuesday has given the principal Opposition party Congress a chance to lash out at the BJP. Reacting to the results, Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat termed it like bursting the bubble.

The Election Commission came out with results for 33 Assembly constituencies spreading over in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Sikkim, Seemandhra, Tripura and West Bengal in which the ruling BJP at the Centre could manage to win just 13 seats out of those. More worrying to note for the saffron party is that it had held 26 seats before the polls.

“People have realised the truth behind the populist slogans of the Modi Government within four months and the bubble of lies has been busted. The Congress has received a big success in Rajasthan and given a tough fight to the BJP in Gujarat. The party lost some seats in close contest due to division of secular votes,” said Sukhdeo Bhagat on Tuesday.

The party sounded more euphoric with the loss of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh where after registering a thumping victory in recently held lok Sabha polls the party managed to win just three seats in the polls out of 11 on offer. “The voters have shown that they do not buy communal politics of the BJP. With the results, it is sure that the BJP could not come to power in the Assembly polls in other States including Jharkhand,” said party spokesperson Shamsher Alam. The party also accused the BJP of defrauding the voters and said Modi came to power by giving false promises.
