The Congress on Wednesday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision of announcing the name of prime ministerial candidate for the lok Sabha elections- 2014. Talking to media the All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson BC Das termed the decision taken in hurry.
“Why should we be in a hurry on such a matterIJ They don’t have any issue to talk about,” said Das. Das sought to play down the rise of Narendra Modi, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
Earlier, the AICC spokesperson showered praise on the party leadership for passing the land Acquisition, Rehabilitation & Resettlement Bill and Food Security Bill in both the houses. Das on Wednesday underscored the provisions of both bills and its benefits vis-à-vis the older bill.
The AICC Spokesperson termed both the bills as pro-poor and a milestone in the direction of ensuring justice to displaced people as result of land acquisition by bringing in transparency besides fair compensation to a displaced.
“The earlier clauses never emphasized on obtaining consent of the owner of the land which has been ironed out in the bill in its present form,” said Das. Interestingly, Das reaffirmed that the land Bill enjoys support of the state government and the unanimity on the provisions of the bill. “I have talked to the Chief Minister, he has no objections with the provisions of the bill,” confirmed Das.
Talking to media persons Das said the Food Security Bill will address the malnutrition and related issues in the country. “After implementation of the bill we will need around 61 million tonnes of grain which is more than what we produce today. So we have to find ways to increase the production,” added Das.
