Congress likely to stick to one family, one ticket formula

In what could be seen as an attempt to shake-off the dynastic politics tag, the State Congress is planning to implement one ticket to one family formula. Sources said that if the Congress introduces this formula, many probable candidates, who are from same family will be denied tickets. The State Congress in-charge RPN Singh, who reached State Capital on Monday, is to discuss all these issues. Singh is likely to hold meeting with State Congress leadership assessing the poll preparations for year-end Assembly election.

A senior State Congress leader requesting anonymity said, “If the Congress goes with one ticket one family many probable candidates who are sons, daughters, brother, husband wife will be denied ticket.”

The leader further said, “If the formula is applied in ticket distribution than either ex minister and Bermo former MLA Rajendra Singh will get ticket or any of his sons Anup Singh or Gaurav Singh. Similarly, between Chandra Shekhar Dubey a.k.a Dadai Dubey and his sons Abhay and Ajay one will get the ticket.”

Also as per Congress formula, either senior Congress leader Awadh Bihari Singh or his daughter in-law Deepika Pandey Singh will get the ticket. Similarly, between Arun Oraon and former education minister Geetashree Oraon one will get the ticket.

The Congress’ one family one ticket formula assumes importance as in last Assembly election in Odisha and Punjab same formula was considered during ticket distribution.

Sources said that the Congress during ticket distribution is likely to retain eight of its sitting MLAs, which means that Jamtara Congress MLA Irfan Ansari, Lohardaga MLA Sukhdeo Bhagat, Panki MLA Davendra Singh a.k.a Bittu Singh among others will not be replaced.

Similarly, those candidates who have been losing the election for two consecutive terms will not be considered during ticket distribution. The Congress in-charge Singh is also going to have talks with senior leaders gathering feedback whether to go alone or have an alliance with JMM, JVM for Assembly polls.

However, a section of senior Congress leaders is against having an alliance with JMM and JVM as they claimed that having alliance with other party makes the party dependence on others.

Singh who is on mission to Jharkhand is also going to participate at Gandhi Jayanti function being organized by party leadership. The Congress party from October 2 to 9 is going to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti.

On October 2, Congress will take out a padyatra from Birsa Samadhi (Kokar) to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Morhabadi. Also, function will be organised at district and block level. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, seminars, workshops and other functions will be held across the state highlighting the values and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
