Congress legislative party meeting called today

Minister and the leader of Jharkhand Congress legislative party Alamgir Alam has called a meeting of the legislative body of the party on the demand of party MLAs.

The meeting is scheduled for Friday at the residence of the minister.

“Many MLAs want to convey to the government what they expect from the government since there are a lot of pending issues, employment and the policy decisions on important issues. As a matter of practice they need to convey their views to the leader of the legislative fold,” said a senior Congress leader.

But party insiders said that the meeting was called following pressure mounted by Mahagama MLA Dipika Pandey Singh and five other MLAs.

Ahead of the next cabinet meeting, they want Congress’ ministers to put pressure on the government to take important decisions.

“We want the government for a relook into the language policy in which Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi were removed from the list of languages of Jharkhand. Youths are disappointed as the government has not delivered anything for employment. Examination schedules are announced and cancelled. Youths are on the road,” said an MLA.

Congress MLAs fear that in the next election they will face an anti-incumbency wave. There are four Congress ministers in the government.

Mahagama MLA, on the other hand, said that there are many issues that the government needs to resolve on a priority basis. “There should be a common minimum programme to fix priorities. Youths are still waiting for the job. The government had promised to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and many others. But this still has not been done. Similarly, the government has not made its stand clear on 27 percent reservation to OBC,” she said.

She alleged the government officials ignore Congress MLAs and they are unable to get any work done.
