Congress hits at BJP over farmers’ issues

Jharkhand Congress on Wednesday claimed that state-wise demonstration of BJP in Jharkhand remained a flop show as people of Jharkhand have become aware of the real face of the BJP.

Rajesh Thakur, the working president of Jharkhand Congress said that at a press conference held at the party headquarters. Thakur who is one of the working presidents was flanked by another working president of the party Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, spokespersons Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, Shamsher Alam, M Tausif, Jyoti Singh Matharu, Amulya Niraj Khalkho besides Ranchi district Congress president Sanjay Pandey.

“While farmers of the country are boiling over the farming law brought by the Narendra Modi government; the BJP is trying to deflect attention from farmers by staging demonstrations,” Thakur alleged.

Thakur further termed the BJP as anti-farmer and pro-corporate adding that the BJP will have to suffer the consequences of its anti-farmer policies.

He accused the BJP leaders for making baseless allegations on the Hemant Soren government about the paddy procurement.

“During the Raghubar Das government paddy procurement started in January and farmers had to wait for a long time to get payment. But our government has decided to immediately pay 50 per cent of the amount. The BJP which tried to amend CNT and SPT act to favour Ambani and Adani should not pretend to be friends of farmers. In Jharkhand there are 39 lakh farmers out of which last year 1.5 lakh farmers had registered for paddy procurement during the previous government. But only 60000 farmers sold paddy crops to the government. This is because the previous Government had no interest in paddy procurement. When the UPA formed Government 3.79 lakh tonnes paddy was procured. This time our government has set a target to procure 4.50 lakh tonne paddy,” Thakur said.

Speaking about the financial management of the Soren led government Thakur justified the decision of the government to increase the ambit of professional tax.
