Congress goes tough on dissenters

The State Congress on Saturday reconstituted its disciplinary committee to tame loose cannons and prevent them to go wagging their tongue about party’s internal matters. The newly-formed Co-ordination Committee brought new faces in the committee and made it obligatory to seek prior permission for going public on any issue.

The Co-ordination Committee meeting was supervised by Congress’ in-charge for Jharkhand, BK Hariprasad and Tara Chand Bhagora here on Saturday.

“No statements should be issued on party’s policy, stands and programme without prior permission of Pradesh Congress Committee and Congress legislative Party leader. It becomes too confusing when too many people make statements,” said Pradesh Congress Committee president, Sukhdeo Bhagat.

The committee would function with one chairman besides, four vice-chairman. The co-ordination committee appointed Tilak Dhari Singh as the Chairman of the committee that will look out for transgressions.

Meanwhile, the co-ordination committee will manage affairs as reconstituting the PCC has been put aside until further overhauling of the party’s structure in Jharkhand is completed. Bhagat asserted that the committee would bring more people on board to increase representation of all sections of the society.

“PCC would be reconstituted however as of now only the co-ordination committee will function,” maintained Bhagat, adding “we have to create zonal committees prior to that (constituting PCC). The committee would comprise members of National Students Union of India, women wing and others”.

The co-ordination committee and committees under it would be identifying local issues to connect with the people even as a detailed outreach programme has been conceived to revive party before next elections. The committee decided that the focus of the party henceforth would land issues and its use after acquisition; law and order; discrepancies in public distribution system; crime against women and adivasis and press for employment policy to provide employment to youths.

Interestingly, the party has decided to fall back on Gandhism and Nehruvian ideologies to fight other party’s, especially the ideology of Bhartiya Janta Party. “The year 2016 will be a year of struggle and we will teach people Gandhism and Nehruvian ideology,” Bhagat told.

The oldest political party expressed that a series of campaign would kick off in 2016 to highlight issues and galvanise people to seek its redressal.
