State Congress leaders, Alok Kumar Dubey, Lal Kishorenath Shahdeo and Rajesh Gupta said that the way in which the central government had increased the GST from 5 per cent to 12 per cent on the textile and leather industry, it has been postponed due to the protests of the trade unions associated with this industry across the Country including the Jharkhand, but the party's clearly believe that the textile and leather business is a labor intensive industry, so the amount of revenue that will be received by increasing the GST on it, due to the increase in the tax, more number of workers associated with this business will become unemployed, so the Central Government should decrease the rate of GST from 5 per cent instead of hiking it.
“GST of 12 per cent on clothes below one thousand rupees will make lakhs of people unemployed on one hand, while on the other hand the poor will get clothes that are too expensive. The BJP Government has become mentally insolvent,” said the Congress Leaders.
