Central leadership of the Congress party is likely to dispatch party’s Jharkhand in-charge RPN Singh and other senior leaders to Jharkhand to manage the crisis in the State unit of the party.
Sources in the Congress said that Singh and other senior leaders are expected to visit Jharkhand by this month end to hold talks with MLAs and party leaders and workers to know their grievances.
Notably, trouble is brewing in the party from the past one month when MLAs like Mamata Devi, Dipika Pandey Singh and others have vented their anger against the party and the government. MLAs even held a separate meeting to prod central and state leadership for an urgent housekeep of the party. Senior leaders and workers too held meetings and some of them as well as MLAs also visited Delhi to apprise central leadership that things are not good in the party.
Congress MLAs and workers don’t feel empowered despite the party being in the government. They don’t feel like part of the government. One ministerial berth as well as post of chairman of a number of boards and corporations is vacant. They want state leadership to discuss the matter with chief minister for the distribution of board and corporation among alliance partners so that Congress party workers and leaders are accommodated against the vacant post. But the same is not happening. Even no accommodation of party workers in the 20th point programme committee and vigilance committees have been made despite repeated assurance of the central and state leadership.
On the complaint of workers and leaders; last week Singh had even directed working president of state Congress Rajesh Thakur to resolve the issue of appointment in 20th points programme committee from state to block level.
Meanwhile, a meeting of district presidents has been called on July 14 to discuss the outreach programme of the party. The meeting is slated to be important as district presidents will get a platform to share what they feel about the party and the government.
