On the completion of one year at the Centre, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is facing some serious allegations from the Congress as the latter seems to be hitting exactly where it is going to hurt the saffron party the most. The Congress accused the BJP of virtually surrendering to the hardliners, terrorists and Pakistan.
Even as the BJP chose to highlight its achievements, the Congress on Monday outlined the Central Government’s “failures of one year” and accused that the saffron party made a U-turn on its stand of maintaining a zero tolerance against Pakistan and its proxy war against India. The de-facto opposition in Parliament claimed itself to be tougher against terrorism and terrorists.
“They say we are soft against terrorism whereas they have made a lot of compromises on the issue of terrorism. It is we who punished Ajmal Kasab and Afzul Guru whereas they had released Masrat Alam but later arrested him again because of public pressure,” said Secretary, All India Congress Committee (AICC), Sanjay Nirupam.
The AICC Secretary follows other senior functionaries of the Congress to implement the party’s nationwide strategy to issue rebuttal to the BJP’s claim of success in past one-year.
Nirupam added that Pakistan’s flag was unfurled twice in Kashmir where the BJP-PDP alliance is in power and also claimed that infiltration occurred more in the BJP’s rule than ever. The Congress also blamed the BJP for not maintaining its stand against Dawood Ibrahim and Jamat-ud-Dawa chief, Hafiz Saeed.
“Somewhere the Government has failed to contain Pakistan. They dilly-dallied over talks with Pakistan,” alleged Nirupam.
Nirupam charged that the BJP failed in utilizing defence budget, bowed to China and failed to address trade imbalance with the largest neighbour, pointed fingers on purchase of fighter planes from a French company for allegedly bypassing the purchase norms for defence equipments, putting ‘one rank one pension’ scheme launched by United Progressive Alliance Government for the welfare of ex-servicemen on back burner.
Meanwhile, the AICC Secretary candidly admitted that the Congress was punished for its 10-year rule nonetheless the focus must now shift on evaluating the achievements of the BJP-ruled Government.
